THE PERFECT GAME

Basada en una historia real, The Perfect Game dirigida por William Dear, es una película que hay que ver. Es la historia de un grupo de niños de Monterrey, México, amantes del béisbol, pero no tienen equipo. Cesar, un antiguo miembro del equipo St. Louis Cardinals, regresa a su pueblo natal y los niños lo convencen para que los entrene y les ayude a formar su primer equipo de béisbol. Cuando viajan a Estados Unidos a competir en la Serie Mundial de la Liga Menor de Béisbol y empiezan a ganar, la vida de todos en el pueblito empieza a cambiar.

El evento real en el cual esta basado este guión, escrito por W. William Winokur, tiene lugar en 1957. Esta película nos devuelve a ese tiempo, en el cual se sufría de racismo y discriminación, simplemente por ser diferente. Hoy en día, la gente ha olvidado que esas situaciones de segregación en restaurantes, baños públicos, buses, etc. hubieran existido. Esta película nos muestra unos pequeños segmentos para recordarnos.

Las actuaciones de los niños participantes son extraordinarias, así como la de consumados actores como Cheech Marin, que hace el papel de Padre Esteban y Clifton Collins Jr., el entrenador Cesar. Me gusto mucho la música y también la cinematografía que muestra la pobreza del pueblo y el trabajo en la mina de Acero, donde los trabajadores se esclavizan para poner comida en la mesa.

Tiene que ir a ver la película para ver que pasa y disfrutar del increíble sentimiento inspirado por esta aventura mágica de béisbol. Es una película para toda la familia, les llegara al corazón, no solo a los amantes del béisbol, sino también a los amantes de la humanidad.

English Translation

The Perfect Game

Based on a real story, The Perfect Game, directed by William Dear, is a must see movie. It is the story of a group of kids from Monterrey, Mexico who love baseball but have not equipment. Cesar, a former member of the St. Louis Cardinals ends up in their village, and the boys convince him to form a little league baseball team. When they go to the United States and start winning, the lives of everyone in the small village change.

The script, written by W. William Winokur, is based on an actual event taking place in 1957. This movie takes us back to that time, in which racism and discrimination were an issue, just because you were different. Today, people have forgotten that the situations of segregation in restaurants, public bathrooms, busses, etc ever existed. The film shows us a few snippets to remind us.

The acting of the children was great, as it was that of known actors, like Cheech Marin, who played the role of Father Esteban and Clifton Collins Jr., Coach Cesar. . I loved the music and the cinematography showing the poverty of the village and the workings of the steel mill at which they slaved to put food on their tables.

You will have to see the film to know what happens and get the wonderful feeling from their magical baseball adventure. This is a movie for the entire family. It will tug at your heart, not only if you are a baseball lover, but also a lover of humanity.

BRIDESHEAD REVISITED

Brideshead Revisited, dirigido por Julian Jarrold, es la historia de una familia aristocrática y fervorosamente católica en la Inglaterra de antes de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. La historia de la familia Flyte y en particular de los hermanos Sebastian y Julia es vista a través de los ojos del Capitán Charles Ryder quien vuelve al Castillo Brideshead durante la guerra.

Me gusto la cinematografía pues capta muy bien la época. La música me pareció también muy de acuerdo con el tema de la película. Sin embargo, esta última versión de Brideshead Revisited deja mucho que desear. La serie original de la BBC que apareció en televisión en 1981, con Jeremy Irons en el papel principal, fue tan superior a esta película que no admite comparación.

Este guión escrito por Jeremy Brock no le hace justicia a la novela original escrita por Evelyn Waugh. A pesar de que el personaje de Sebastian me conmovió, al terminar la película quede con un sentimiento de desilusión, como si faltara algo, y en realidad, faltaba.

English Translation

Brideshead Revisited, directed by Julian Jarrold, is the story of an aristocratic and devout Catholic family in England on the verge of WWII. The story of the Flyte family and in particular that of Sebastian and Julia, who are brother and sister is revisited thru the eyes of Capitan Charles Ryder who comes back to the Brideshead Castle during the war.

I liked the cinematography because it captures the period very well. The music also goes very well with the film. Nevertheless, this latest version of Brideshead leaves much to be desired. The BBC original series aired on television in 1981, starring Jeremy Irons was so far superior as to defy comparison.

This script, written by Jeremy Brock, does not do justice to the original novel written by Evelyn Waugh. Even though the character of Sebastian was compelling, at the end of the movie I had a feeling of disappointment, as though there was something missing, and actually, there was.
