FILMED right here in Broward County and a hit at the 2008 Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival.
"What other evening in your life is as big? Maybe your wedding, but odds are that's gonna end in divorce anyway," says Danny's sage-like friend, Craig, as the two nerdy pals lounge poolside in the Florida retirement community they call home. The night in question? Prom, of course, and high school senior Danny Stein wants what any reasonable young man wants on prom night - to get a little lovin' from a cute girl. He's got the hotel, the limo, and the tux, and his recently divorced, slightly dysfunctional parents are rooting for him. He's only missing one thing -- the girl.

Jonas is a crime photographer, a family man, and a generally beleaguered resident of suburban malaise until he's involved in a car accident that leaves a stranger, Julia, unconscious in the hospital. Curiosity compels Jonas to visit her, but when Julia's family mistakes him for her boyfriend, Sebastian (whom they've never met), Jonas readily steps into the role. His pretense would be short lived, but Julia awakens with amnesia and, enlivened by the new identity he's inherited, Jonas maintains the deception. Of course, memories return. And so do boyfriends.

The French comedy stars Virginie Ledoyen, Emmanuel Mouret, Julie Gayet, Michaël Cohen, Frédérique Bel, and Stefano Accorsi. When Gabriel and Emilie meet by chance, he offers her a ride, and they spend the evening talking, laughing and getting along famously. At the end of the night, Emilie declines Gabriel's offer of "a kiss without consequences". Fados features one of the finest “World Music” soundtracks to date. - New Yorker Films
Fados completes the musical trilogy of award-winning Carlos Saura (Flamenco, 1995; Tango, 1998). UsingLisbon as a backdrop, he explores Portugal’s most emblematic musical genre (fado) and its haunting spirit of saudade (melancholy). Tracing its African and Brazilian origins up to the new wave of modern faudistas, he ingeniously deploys mirrors, back projections, lighting effects, and lush colors to frame each song, ranging from a campfire ringed by sinuous dancers to a balletic catfight between two jealous women to a thrilling desgarrada (musical duel) in a fado café. The result is a ravishing fusion of cinema, song, dance and instrumental numbers.
Fados contains homages to such legends as Maria Severa and Amália Rodrigues, as well as stunning turns by modern stars like Mariza and Camané; but Saura also expands the songs (which traditionally involve just a singer and a guitarist) with dance and encompasses other nationalities (with a special emphasis on performers of color from Portugal’s former colonies) and idioms (such as hip hop, flamenco and reggae). This inclusive, non-purist approach conveys a grand vision of music’s power to break down boundaries: between Iberian neighbors Spain and Portugal, Old World and New, white and black, young and old, rich and poor -- a celebration of fado as World Music in the fullest sense of the term. Under the musical supervision of Carlos do Carmo

Six time Oscar winner "All About Eve", is all about women and their men. It’s a classic story of ambition and betrayal that has become part of American folklore. Bette Davis claims to have based her character on in the film on actress Tellulah Bankhead, and her line "Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night" is legendary. In fact, the film's dialog sparkles with equal brilliance.

DON QUIXOTE –Ballet in Cinema
Tuesday, May 26, 7:00 PM
Saturday, May 30, 2:00 PM
General Admission $15 | FLIFF Members $10 | Children Under Sixteen $8
The most well-known and resilient adaptation of Don Quixote is that of Russian choreographer, Marius Petipa, that first premiered in 1869. Alexander Gorsky revitalized the work in a 1902 performance including the famous Anna Pavlova, who danced the role of the street dancer and eventually was responsible for bringing the piece to the West in 1924. The ballet became a staple of the Moscow Bolshoi Ballet and Leningrad Kirov Ballet's repertoire and was regularly modified as it was restaged.
Don Quixote is a ballet known for its colorful characters that portray their personalities and emotions through distinct choreography. Petipa's version of Don Quixote, to the music of Minkus, is the standard ballet version of the tale and features the popular virtuoso pas de deux that has been performed countless times as a concert piece.

General Admission $9.00 | Students and Seniors $7.00 | FLIFF Members $5.00
Writer-director Rob Margolies' debut feature bristles with smart dialogue, complex characters, and heart wrenching performances. Set against the backdrop of suburban utopia, the Bernstein family leads a dysfunctional existence. With three foul-mouthed kids (Robbie Sublett, Dreama Walker, and Jacob Kogan), a caffeine-addict mother (Jane Adams) on the brink, and a less than forthcoming father (Josh Pais), they suffer an atmosphere so heavy with collective hostility and tension it seems as if the floral-papered walls will come crashing down at any minute. Forced to the breaking point, they concede to a family therapy session, where it quickly becomes clear that what's at stake is "about a lot more than dry turkey." Repressed anger and antagonism give way to moments of self-revelation, as a patient and compassionate Dr. Livingston (Joe Morton) draws out demons and dark secrets, allowing the family to start accepting their own humanity. Brutally hilarious, warmly intimate, always honest, "Lifelines" is an impressively fresh take on the family drama.
